Baseball: Spring trip Update

(3/18/12) Genesee vs. Prarie State College

Game two: In game two, the team continued to have quiet bats, scoring just three runs on six hits. Sean Stanley had a good day on the mound for the Cougars pitching all seven innings, striking out six. The Cougars fell in game two, 4-3.

(3/18/12) Genesee vs. Prarie State College

Game one: The Cougars scored two runs in the first inning of the double header but only had one hit after that. Genesee fell to the Pioneers 3-2. The team had a great pitching effort from Brandon Stagg who went all seven innings and give up just three runs on five hits. Stagg did not walk a batter and had four strike outs.

(3/17/12) Genesee vs. University of Tampa JV
Genesee lost its third game of the year 10-4 to the University of Tampa JV team. Genesee was led at the plate by Bryan DePew and Shakeel Newton with two hits each. Dylon Grousal took the loss for Genesee, pitching four innings and giving up 11 hits and six runs.

(3/16/12) Genesee vs. Rochester College & Technology

Game two: Rubin Medina pitched a complete game allowing one run on two hits. Mark Knight went 2-3 with two RBI's. Yuya Oswa, Javier Ledesma and Jose Alicea each had two hits for the Cougars. Cougars won the game 7-1

(3/16/12) Genesee vs. Rochester College & Technology

Game one: Rochester College & Technology scored three in the first and three in the second to take a 6- 0 lead over the Cougars. In the fourth inning, Genesee scored one run and then added five in the fifth before winning the game in the ninth inning. Kyle Taylor came in the game to pitch for the Courgars starting in the third inning. Leading the team in hitting was Shakeel Newton and Brandon Collins; both going 3-4. Manny Garcia went 3-3. Cougars win 7-6 in nine innings!

(3/15/12) Genesee vs. CCRI
In game one, the Cougars scored 3 runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to beat CCRI 4-3. Sean Sutton delivered the game winning hit for Genesee, going 2-3 in the game including a double. Tyler Koronas went 1-2 with two stolen bases. Dan Sharpe got the win on the mound going all seven innings giving up three runs on four hits. Sharpe had two strike outs while only giving up one walk.

(3/15/12) Game Two:
Genesee vs. CCRI
In game two, the two teams battled again with Genesee coming up short 2-1. CCRI scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win a game where the Cougars out hit them 8-7. Jean Rodriguez was robbed of the homerun in the sixth inning on a great play by the CCRI left fielder. Brandon Collins led the team going 2-3. Shakeel Newton added a double. Adam Pratt took the tough loss, pithcing all seven innings giving up seven hits while striking out seven.

(3/14/12) Genesee vs. Burlington CC
Genesee took a 2-0 lead into the 6th inning on a strong pitching performance by Brandon Stagg. In the 6th, Burlington CC scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead over the Cougars. In the bottom of the seventh, Genesee led off with a hit by Javier Ledesma. Ledesma stole second base and then scored on a hit by Shakeel Newton who finished the day 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Newton stole second base and later scored on a pass ball to give Genesee a 4-3 win. With the win, the team moves to 6-1 on the season. Greg Young and Javier Ledesma were both 1-2. Kyle Taylor picked up the win pitching one inning not allowing a hit.

The team will play CC of Rhode Island at 1:30 tomorrow.

(3/14/12) Genesee vs. Burlington CC
It took 10 innings for the cougars to win their fourth game in a row and improve to 5-1 on the season. In the 10th inning, Manny Garcia led off the inning with a single and then moved to second on a sac bunt. Shakeel Newton walked, and Tyler Koronas then was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sean Sutton then hit a single to score two runs and was followed by Brandon Collins hitting a single to score the final run in the inning. Sutton and Garcia both went 2-3 for Genesee. Dan Harms came in and pitched two innings to get the win in relief not allowing a hit. Genesee won 8-5 improving to 5-1 on the year.

(3/11/12) GCC vs. Salem CC @ Richmond, VA
Genesee improved to 3-1 with a 5-2 win over Salem CC of New Jersey. The game went into extra innings when Brandon Collins hit a two run double to break the tie. Tyler Koronas went 3-4 with a double and two stolen bases. Manny Garcia added a double going 2-3.
Adam Pratt pitched a strong six innings walking only two and striking out seven. Brandon Stagg got the win pitching two innings giving up one hit and striking out three.

(3/11/12) GCC vs. Salem CC @ Richmond, VA
GCC scored seven runs in the first two innings and added three more in the fifth to improve to 4-1 on the early season with a 10-6 win. Yuya Osana went 3-4 scoring twice while Jean Rodriguez went 3-4 with two stolen bases. Bradon Collins hit a three run homerun in the 5th. Shakeel Newton went 3-5 scoring three times with two RBI's and a stolen base.

(3/10/12) GCC vs. JCC @ Richmond, VA
GCC scored one run in the first, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and 1 in the sixth to beat Jamestown 5-2. Bradon Collins went 2-3 with a double and RBI. Byan Depew, Jose Alicia, Jean Rodriguez, Manny Garcia and Sean Sutton all had hits for Genesee. Dan Harms got the win pitching 6.2 innings allowing four hits and striking out two. Kyle Taylor got the save pitching the final out. He struck out the final batter with the bases loaded.

(3/10/12) GCC vs. Salem CC @ Richmond, VA
Genesee beat Salem CC 7-2. Jose Alicia went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's also stealing a base. Brandon Collins and Jean Rodriguez went 2-3. Rodriguez also had a double.
Genesee scored three runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth for the win. Dan Sharpe pitched a complete game pitching seven innings giving up six hits and striking out six with two walks. GCC moved to a 2-1 record.
