The Genesee Community College men's basketball team earned a win in their first Western New York Athletic Conference game of the season, 96-68 at Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday night.
A back and forth first half sent both teams into the locker room all square at 40 at the break. The Cougars came out and dominated the second half, going on a 24-6 run at one point and outscoring the Saints 56-28 overall in the second twenty minutes. Michael Glenn (Fairport, NY) and Kenton Chan-Man (Brooklyn, NY) each netted 24 points for the Cougars who move to 8-6 (1-0) on the season. Terryl Coombs (Brooklyn, NY) and Tyshawn Ferguson (Chicago, IL) each earned a double-double. Ferguson scored 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds and Coombs scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Deylon Bovell (Brooklyn, NY) also added 16 points.
Genesee will travel to the Community College of Rhode Island tournament this weekend, playing their first game against Monroe College (Bronx, NY) on Saturday at 3pm.
