Batavia, NY- Residents in Genesee Community College’s on-campus housing complex, College Village, are taking advantage of the newly upgraded network system. In these tech-savvy times, residents of College Village are excited about the new faster connections. Provided by Apogee, a supplier of higher education network services, the new network offers residents an improved communication network.
With the new network upgrades, College Village residents enjoy free high-speed network access with three Mbps download speed, both wired and wireless. Residents can contact support 24-hours a day for assistance connecting any network-capable device (like a smart phone, laptop, game system, etc.) to the network. Just recently installed, residents of College Village are already noticing the faster and consistent internet connection.
“The wireless internet is working flawlessly so far,” Kaileigh Domster, a resident assistant at College Village said. “I love that I can connect my personal laptop to the network and not have any connection issues. It’s the end of the semester and its imperative that we can connect with our professors for any last minute questions regarding final papers or final exams.”
Administrators at College Village and the GCC Foundation are also enjoying the new, reliable network connections. John Sisson, director of College Village noted, “The number one goal of the GCC Foundation is student success. This new network upgrade greatly assists our residents in becoming successful students.”
Apogee is the largest provider of on-campus residential networks (ResNet) in higher education. Partnering with Apogee for ResNet services allows colleges and universities to enhance their network infrastructure while offloading the growing volume of administrative responsibilities associated with managing a student network.
Located adjacent to the GCC’s Batavia Campus, College Village features apartment-style suites housing up to 380 residents. Students can apply for the Citizenship Scholarship program, which helps student resident leaders with a $1,000 stipend toward College Village housing expenses. College Village is still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.
