Batavia, New York — The Rosalie “Roz” Steiner Art Gallery, inside the Genesee Center for the Arts, is pleased to welcome a unique exhibit by ceramics artist Kala Stein. The exhibit will run January 17 through February 27, 2012. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place on Thursday, January 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit and opening receptions are free and open to the public.

Kala Stein is a ceramic designer, maker and educator who has received national recognition as a top emerging ceramic artist. Her installation Convivium features a 40 foot-long glass table set with hundreds of porcelain half-goblet forms arranged in a precise pattern. Convivium describes a coming together, a celebratory congregation, a banquet of minds. This type of gathering is a venue for exchange, a place to spark new relationships, and a site to cultivate what presently exists. It is about the constructive potentials of the collective.

Kala Stein is currently a visiting instructor of ceramics at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY New Paltz and a Master’s of Fine Arts from the College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Kala is also the owner of Spring Valley Clay Works in Spring Valley, New York.

“We are excited about this upcoming exhibit by Kala Stein,” Shirley Tokash Verrico, director of the Roz Steiner Art Gallery said. “This is an important artwork by a young artist who is receiving a great deal of recognition regionally. Her unique use of materials and light brings a distinctive and awe-inspiring visual to the Gallery. This exhibit is not to be missed!”
