Batavia, New York – The Genesee Community College Foundation kicked off its Wyoming County Campaign on Friday, December 2 at its Warsaw Campus Center. The Foundation’s board president, Russ Romano, addressed the volunteers from Perry, Attica, Warsaw and Arcade about the importance of donating as an “investment” in the local communities’ future. He noted that 70 percent of GCC graduates remain in the area.

Monica Dawson, co-chair of this year’s campaign, also thanked everyone and noted that this fall over 970 residents of Wyoming County are attending classes at a GCC campus. Mrs. Dawson then introduced Jeremy J. Satchell, branch manager at M&T Bank in Arcade, as this year’s Wyoming County Chairperson.

Mr. Satchell announced that his campaign team is enthusiastic in its endeavor to help residents of Wyoming County raise their hopes and dreams of obtaining a degree in higher education to enable their future success and to enhance their community.

“Statistics uphold the fact that students who study close to their home tend to settle close to home. Estimates show that two-thirds of GCC alumni live and work in the Western New York region. We are very fortunate to have two GCC campuses in Wyoming County, one in Warsaw and one in Arcade, and students are taking full advantage of these locations.”

The Arcade area has offered GCC classes since l984 and the campus center on Edward Street has been open since l994. It has since increased classroom space to accommodate growing student enrollment. Likewise, the Warsaw Campus Center, now located on Linwood Avenue, first opened on North Main Street in l991. A visit to either facility finds classrooms, computer labs and a welcoming staff and atmosphere to enhance learning.

Mr. Satchell added, “Personal calls will be made by our campaign team and letters with pledge cards will be mailed soon. Please invest in our community and our residents, our future leaders and employees. They need your support.”

The Genesee Community College Foundation was formed in the mid-eighties as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing service and support to the college. Its thirty-member board of directors is comprised of business and civic leaders and funds raised support student scholarships and grants.

Contributions for support for the College programs and students may be sent to the GCC Foundation, One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020. For more information contact the Foundation (585) 345-6809 or foundation@genesee.edu.
