BACKGROUND:
Genesee Community College will host the fourth and final lecture in the Civil War lecture series. The lecture will take place in the Conable Technology Building of GCC’s Batavia Campus and is free and open to the public. Pre-registration for the lecture is encouraged. The fourth lecture, “The Impact of the Civil War on Genesee County: Waving Goodbye to your Loved Ones” is led by Sue Conklin, Genesee County Historian.
This presentation on the Civil War will include examples from every town and the local impact of the war. Records documenting the drafting of men, impact on the County Home (Poor House), financial burdens, individual experiences and memorials will be used. In addition, the History department's collection of records will be reviewed and current projects to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War will be discussed.
