BATAVIA, NY – Genesee Community College along with Cornell Cooperative Extension, offer an Agri-Business Career Exploration on Monday, December 12 at the Batavia Campus of GCC. Community members are invited to this free event to experience the abundance of career opportunities in a variety of agricultural industries. The event will take place from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in the Conable Technology Building room T119.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet nearly two dozen agri-business representatives. The event will consist of a combination of Ag-business presentations as well as one-on-one introductions. Local experts representing the dairy, animal breeding, crop management, business management, farm credit and other ag-based industries will be present. This event features the culmination of contacts and connections that were created through GCC’s new AGR190: WNY Agriculture course.
The new Western New York Agriculture (AGR109) course was the first of its kind at Genesee and involved a dynamical blend of classroom lectures and labs along with multiple field trips to local farms and agricultural-based businesses to provide extensive hands-on experience and onsite information gathering. The Western New York Agriculture course was developed in a collaborative effort shared by GCC and Cornell Cooperative Extension - Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team.
“This is a unique opportunity for not only our students here at GCC, but the entire local community,” Maureen Leupold, professor of Biology at GCC said. “Agriculture is the foundation of our local economy and proposes an abundance of career opportunities right here in our local region.”
