Women's Basketball Falls to Onondaga

The Genesee Community College Women’s Basketball team came out strong early on and was unable to continue throughout the contest in a 78-70 loss to the visiting Onondaga Community College Lazers.

The Genesee Community College Women’s Basketball team came out strong early on and was unable to continue throughout the contest in a 78-70 loss to the visiting Onondaga Community College Lazers.

In a back and forth first half, The Cougars were able to go point-for-point with the Lazers as the teams traded the lead throughout the opening stanza. Genesee was led in the first half by Kayla Golden (Lackawanna, NY) with 10 points and four rebounds. The OCC Lazers were led by Alyssa Gratien with 11 points. The Cougars came back and tied the game at 32 to end the half. 

In the second half, the Lazers came out strong and went on a 12-2 run. Despite a late Genesee rally, OCC was able to hand the Lady Cougars their second loss of the young season. OCC was led offensively by Alyssa Gratien with a game high 27 points. GCC was led by Sophomores Jasmine Armstead (Rochester, NY/Eastridge HS) with a team high 17 points and Golden who finished the game with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Carrie Blunt (Syracuse, NY) led the Cougars with 13 rebounds defensively. 

GCC drops to 3-2 on the season and will next be in action on Saturday November 12th as they take on Lakewood Community College Lakers at 1pm in Mentor, Ohio.
