Genesee Forum Players Earn TANYS Awards

Batavia, New York— The Forum Players of Genesee Community College were recently awarded three acting awards from the Theater Association of New York State (TANYS). The Forum Player’s “A Night of One Acts” earned two Excellence in Ensemble Acting awards for Naomi in the Living Room and Foreplay or the Fugue, as well as an Excellence in Acting award to Nikole Marone for her performance as Jennifer in The Second Beam.

Batavia, New York— The Forum Players of Genesee Community College were recently awarded three acting awards from the Theater Association of New York State (TANYS). The Forum Player’s “A Night of One Acts” earned two Excellence in Ensemble Acting awards for Naomi in the Living Room and Foreplay or the Fugue, as well as an Excellence in Acting award to Nikole Marone for her performance as Jennifer in The Second Beam.

Genesee Community College will once again host the annual TANYS festival on November 18, 19 and 20, 2011. This is the fourth year in a row that GCC has been asked to the host the three-day festival. This year’s festival, “Masquerade, 25 Years of TANYS,” is an intense, three-day celebration of community theatre. The festival brings together theater lovers from across New York State to mingle, network and celebrate community theatre.

Throughout the weekend there will be a variety of theatre workshops and performances. Workshops include: Props, Methods, and Materials, Choosing a Season, Building a Character, Blood Effects, Staging a Death, Script Analysis, Costuming on the Cheap, Put Some Fun in Fundraising, and an Adjudicator’s Roundtable.

In addition, the Forum Player’s One Acts performance of Naomi in the Living Room by Christopher Durang, will be the event’s opening act and will be competing for best short play. Naomi in the Living Room is directed by Maryanne Arena, and includes a cast of Peggy Marone (Batavia) as Naomi, Emily Jones (Waterloo) as Johnna, and Patrick Dodge (Warsaw) as John, a local community and student cast ensemble.

“We once again welcome the TANYS festival back to GCC and the Genesee Center for the Arts,” Maryanne Arena, director of Fine and Performing Arts at Genesee said. “This is a great event for students and local community theater-enthusiasts to watch performances and participate in educational workshops. We invite all community members to experience the talent of community theater at the annual TANYS festival. ”
