Sophomore defender Emily Troup has been named to the All-Region second team for the 2011 NJCAA Women's Soccer season.
A starter in all 19 games this season, Troup anchored the Genesee defense and also contributed two goals and an assist on offense.
“She did whatever she could to help us win,” said head coach Charlie Woods, “even if it meant playing in goal, which she did for us for three games.”
Troup is a Holley, New York native and a second year player with Genesee Community College. As a freshman, Troup was a member of the 2010 women’s soccer team that advanced to the National Championship Finals match. She was an All-Conference, All-Region and a National Championship All-Tournament player for the Lady Cougars last season.
“Her consistency every day in practice and during the games is what sets Emily apart. You always know what you’re going to get from her, and that's a great effort,” said Woods. “Any coach would want Emily on their team. She is someone that you can always find a spot for on the field no matter where it is,” he added.
The Lady Cougars finished a 9-10 season with a 1-0 opening round loss in the Region III Tournament against Onondaga Community College on October 22nd. Troup is one of 11 sophomores that were part of the women’s soccer team this season.
“I wish I had her back for another year,” Woods said. “I know she will excel wherever she is going to move on to. She has a bright future on and off the field.”
