Women's Basketball Starts Season with a Win

The Genesee Community College women’s basketball team started their season off with a win on Tuesday night, defeating Niagara College of Canada 72-67. The Lady Cougars started the game on a 10-2 run and took a 33-29 lead into the half.

The Lady Cougars started the game on a 10-2 run and took a 33-29 lead into the half. Jasmine Armstead (Rochester, NY) scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half to help give Genesee the halftime advantage.
GCC used a 7-0 run to start the second half to up their lead to eleven at 40-29 and did not trail during the final half. Despite being out-rebounded 54-49 in the game, the Lady Cougars took advantage of second chance opportunities. They scored 28 second chance points compared to Niagara’s 8.
Chyna Lennox (Moseley, VA) led the way for GCC scoring a team high 17 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Kayla Golden (Lackawanna, NY) and Carrie Blunt (Syracuse, NY) added 14 and 13 points respectively.
Genesee starts the season off 1-0 and will play again on Friday and Saturday in the Mohawk Valley Tournament.
