Community College is pleased to announce it has received a TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) Program Grant. GCC was one of 128 recipients in 44 states to be awarded a TRIO program grant to provide counseling and information on college admissions to qualified individuals who want to enter or continue a program of postsecondary education. This is the 26th year that GCC has received this grant.

GCC was among four SUNY community colleges to receive grants from the Department of Education for initiatives that aim to improve the education pipeline in New York State. The grants will go toward increasing college enrollment capacity and providing low-income and at-risk students with the support they need to succeed in college.

“This is great news for community members who are recently out of work due to the closure of local businesses,” Marie Giardino, director of GCC’s Adult Educational Opportunity Center said. “We are here to help those workers who have recently endured a lay off and are looking to increase their job skills or change career paths.”

Genesee’s Adult Educational Opportunity Center (AEOC), is a six county, (Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming), community-based educational assistance program that helps individuals to begin, resume, or continue their education. The goal is to assist adults to get connected to the appropriate resources that will help them to meet their individual goals.
