Hoover Named Coach of the Year

The National Junior College Athletic Association Men Lacrosse Coaches Association announced that Dave Hoover of Genesse Community College is the 2011 recepient of the Scott D. Livie Memorial Award/Coach of the Year.

Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that men's lacrosse head coach David Hoover has been named the recipient of the 2011 Scott D. Livie Memorial Award, an award recognizing the top head coach at the junior college level. Coach Hoover, also named 2011 Region III Coach of the Year, led Genesee to a 14-4 record in the spring and competed in the Region III Championship and the NJCAA Final Four.

"It is a great honor, especially when you consider the quality of coaches in the NJCAA. I credit and accept the award for the entire coaching staff at Genesee Community College. It takes the whole staff working together to accomplish the type of success we had in 2011," said Hoover.

The family and friends of Scott D. Livie have established a restricted fund within the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association to annually present the Scott D. Livie Memorial Junior College Coach of the Year award. A committee of IMLCA members annually review nominees for the award based on their team's success during the current season, team improvement from the previous season, fulfillment of team potential and professional manner and attitude of the coach.

Coach Hoover has matured the Genesee lacrosse program since he began as head coach in 2006, and has tallied double digit win totals in each of the past two seasons.

"Following our first ten win season in 2010, more experienced high school players started enrolling at Genesee Community College because the program was developing into a top ten NJCAA team. The coaches also worked very hard at building team confidence and belief within the players that with the team's strengths on both the offense and defense, they could compete with any team in junior college lacrosse," Hoover said of the team's recent success.

Coach Hoover will enter his sixth season as head coach in the spring of 2012 and has totaled 33 wins and 30 losses during his first five seasons.

"Our 2012 team should be as good as last year, if not improved. Genesee Community College has good depth at every position, but the coaches must get the team to 'gel' together and play with the discipline necessary to reach their maximum potential week in and week out," Hoover said.

Coach Hoover will be honored and receive his award at the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association and United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association luncheon at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on December 2, 2011.

Coach Hoover currently resides in East Amherst, New York with his wife, Jean. He has two children Tracy and Derek. Derek is Genesee's assistant lacrosse coach.
