Batavia, New York – Genesee Community College’s Director of Student Activities, Clifford Scutella, was recently honored by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) at their Northeast Convention in Syracuse, NY October 7-9, 2011. Mr. Scutella was among several advisors who were nominated from colleges throughout the northeast.
Cliff Scutella came to Genesee in 1989 after serving as the assistant director of Student Activities at Monroe Community College from 1978-1989. He has held the position of director of Student Activities for his entire tenure as well as serving as dean of students for a few years. He resides in Brockport, NY.
Mr. Scutella was nominated by the entire Student Activities office at GCC.
“Cliff demonstrates what makes him a noteworthy individual and incredible advisor,” Joanna Barefoot, assistant director of Student Activities at GCC said. “One of these qualities is his amazing way of empowering both staff and students to rise up to their full potential, often encouraging them to reach for and accomplish things that they themselves would have never attempted to reach for or thought that they had the ability to achieve.”
Also honored at the APCA Northeast Convention was the Student Activities monthly publication, “Cliff Notes”. The 11” x 17” student newsletter, “Cliff Notes” is a colorful, in-house monthly bulletin of events that informs students of the various activities on campus and has cost-effectively helped retain students. It was designed by Michael Garrett, Technical Specialist in the Marketing Communications office. This was the second time “Cliff Notes” has been recognized by the APCA. It can be viewed at http://www.genesee.edu/index.cfm/general/dspArticle/students.newsletter/.
Cliff Scutella will advance to the National Advisor of the Year level for APCA which will be presented in Jacksonville, Florida in March 2012. For more information please contact the office of Student Activities at 345-6832.
