Men's Soccer Moves to Fifth in The Country

The Genesee Community College Men's Soccer team celebrated moving up to number five in the nation in the Division III Soccer rankings with a 9-0 victory at Corning on Thursday night. The game was played in very heavy rain which resulted in a number puddles of water on the field.

The game was played in very heavy rain which resulted in a number puddles of water on the field. Despite the weather, the Cougars were on the board after 3 minutes as Brandon Reiner (Attica, NY) finished a Dom Francis (Huddersfield, England) pass. Sam Cassidy (Cork City, Ireland) soon made it 2-0 with the assist going to Brady Smith (Brisbane, Australia). The third goal came from a direct free kick by Josh Gray (Norwich, England) after Joe Palmer (Barnsley, England) was fouled on the edge of the box. Gray turned provider for the fourth goal as Peter Keegan (Dublin, Ireland) scored from the edge of the box. Sam Cassidy got his second and the Cougars fifth with Josh Gray again getting the assist. Jonny Bonner (Buncrana, Ireland) rounded out the first half scoring with Cassidy setting him up.

The Cougars were soon on the board in the second half despite the worsening conditions as Barry Kinsella (Dublin, Ireland) set up Brandon Reiner for his second of the game. Dom Francis scored the eight and the ninth goals of the game with the assists going to Peter Keegan and Declan Brennan (Dublin, Ireland) respectively.

Jon Ryan's (Batavia, NY) defensive play and Alex Lombard's (Albion, NY) anchoring role in the midfield helped to protect Joe Agerskow in goal who has now played in 6 games this season without conceding a goal.

The #5 Cougars are next in action at #1 Herkimer CCC on Tuesday, October 18 at 3pm.
