Men's Soccer Earns Another Victory

The Genesee Community College Men’s Soccer team increased their unbeaten start to the season to ten games with a 3-0 win over Mercyhurst North East on Thursday afternoon. Joe Palmer (Barnsley, England) started the scoring for the Cougars, beating the Saints goalkeeper in the 24th minute of the first half.

Joe Palmer (Barnsley, England) started the scoring for the Cougars, beating the Saints goalkeeper in the 24th minute of the first half. Both teams played an even final twenty minutes of the first half, and the Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Brandon Reiner (Attica, NY) headed a wonderful cross from Josh Gray (Norwich, England) into the back of the net to increase GCC’s lead to 2-0. Peter Keegan (Dublin, Ireland) capped off the Cougar scoring by capitalizing on a free kick just outside of the box to give GCC the 3-0 lead. Both squads played a physical contest that resulted in a total of five yellow cards issued.

The Cougars improve to 8-0-2 on the season and with the shutout, goalkeeper Jack West now has seven clean sheets on the year. GCC will play once again on Saturday, October 1st at 4pm at North Country Community College.
