Late Surge Propels Lady Cougars

The Genesee Community College Women's Soccer team defeated Erie Community College on Thursday evening, by a final score of 6-2. The Cougars struck early when Ali Cashmore found the back of the net in the second minute of the game, to give GCC a 1-0 lead.

The Cougars struck early when Ali Cashmore (Akron, NY) found the back of the net in the second minute of the game, to give GCC a 1-0 lead. It was Cashmore again about ten minutes later scoring her second goal of the game, and second goal of the season, giving the Cougars a 2-0 which they would take into the half.

The Lady Kats would claw their way back into the game in the second half, however. Chelsea Olson drew the Kats within one with a goal in the seventh minute, and Jessica Dispenza tied it at 2-2 with a goal in the tenth minute.

The Cougars would gain back the momentum, and score the last four goals of the game to seal the victory. Jamie Swanger (Holley, NY) regained the GCC lead with a goal in the 23rd minute, off of a nice assist from Marissa Pecora (Rochester, NY). Bridgett Buchanann (Mt. Morris, NY) gave the Cougars a 4-2 lead, scoring in the 29th minute. Katie Smith (Akron, NY) scored her first goal of the season to put GCC up 5-2 in the 39th minute, and Buchannann added the sixth goal, her second of the game, in the 45th minute off of a nice assist from Jessica Laudico (Holley, NY).

The Lady Cougars even their season record at 2-2, and will play at Onondaga Community College on Saturday, September 10th, at 1pm.
