The Genesee Community College Women’s Soccer team started their season off with a 2-0 victory over Mercyhurst North East on Thursday night; earning head coach Charlie Woods his first career victory as a head coach.
The Cougars, ranked 4th in the nation, scored the game’s first goal in the 57th minute when freshman Jamie Swanger scored on a pass from Marissa Pecora. GCC would add another goal about ten minutes later when sophomore Cady Hume beat two Mercyhurst North East defenders down the line, sending a ball in front that was tipped in by a Lady Saint for an own goal.
“We controlled possession throughout the game and created numerous chances,” said Woods. “After we scored, we just held on strong defensively and got the win,” he added.
The 1-0 Lady Cougars will remain on the road for their next contest when they travel to play at Broome Community College on September 3rd, at 1pm.
