LIMA, NY - The Lima Campus Center of Genesee Community College will welcome autumn and the changing fall foliage with a Fall Field Day held at the Campus Center on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The Field Day is a free, family-friendly event running 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at the Center located at 7285 Gale Road on Route 15A. The event kicks off the start of the Civil War Initiative, a program aimed at commemorating and celebrating the history of our nation's Civil War.

Lima Campus Center's Field Day will feature family fun, food and games as well as prize give-aways. Singer, songwriter, and environmental activist, Drew Landry will perform at 11:00 AM. College staff will be offering tours of the Center and providing academic advisement upon request. Several community groups will also be in attendance to share their groups' information.

Louisiana native, Drew Landry writes and sings about the sacredness of the family farm, family turmoil, and the heart wrenching impact of the BP oil spill on the people, culture, economy, and the wetlands of Louisiana. Landry works tirelessly to make government officials and the people of the United States aware of the problems that continue because of the BP oil spill and the impact of all pollution on the environment.

The Fall Field Day will also kick-off the Lima Campus Center's Civil War Initiative (CWI), a multi-year program for community members to learn about and commemorate the rich history of the American Civil War. The CWI will provide several opportunities throughout the year to discover the history of the Civil War through lectures, movies and other activities that will lead up to a Civil War reenactment. Led by GCC instructor of History, Derek Maxfield, the CWI is a great opportunity for community members to find out more about the dynamic history of the Civil War.

"The Fall field Day is a great opportunity for community residents, families and students to celebrate the changing seasons and enjoy some free family fun," Monica Mattioli, associate dean of the Lima Campus Center said. "This event provides a little something for everyone. From music, to history, to games and give-aways, we hope local residents will join us at our Fall Field Day."

The Lima Campus Center is located at 7285 Gale Road Lima, NY 14485 just 1 mile north of Lima on Route 15A. The Field Day is open to the community and admission is free. For further information please contact the Lima Campus Center at 585-582-1226 or visit www.genesee.edu/Lima.
