The event will take place on the College’s East lawn, overlooking the scenic Genesee valley and College Village, where a tree will be planted. Three local florists, Beverly’s Flowers and Gifts, Anything Your Heart Desires, and Batavia Stage Coach Florist have donated flowers. The Batavia Lowe’s also made a kind donation of stones and potted flowers. With western New York in full summertime bloom and wild flowers coloring the countryside – all guests and participants are asked to bring flowers with them in a gesture of peace and remembrance. If possible, please place the flowers in a disposable container with water so they can remain fresh as long as possible.
“We are hoping this small but significant ceremony will draw people of all religious backgrounds, ethnicities, social and political inclinations together and allow us to solidify peaceful pursuits and emphasize our many common denominators,” Bobbie Noto, director of GCC’s Wellness Center said. “From great tragedy comes great opportunity and at GCC we try always take the time to make every effort.”
