Genesee Community College’s Marketing Communications Department was the recipient of four State University of New York Council for University Advancement (SUNYCUAD) awards of excellence at the annual conference in Saratoga Springs, NY June 8-11, 2011. Genesee was awarded a Best of Category award and three Judge’s Citation awards. All of the publications were created in-house through the College’s Marketing Communications department.
Genesee took home top honors in the Internal Communication category under Poster or Sign Program for their ‘Face of Genesee’ vending machine photo mural. The photo mural is located in the Batavia Campus’s cafeteria above the vending area. The mural is a 28 foot graphic that features 65 Genesee students in squares, depicting the students’ individual interests. The graphic was so successful with the students that it helped initiate a whole marketing and advertising campaign called the Faces of Genesee.
The Faces of Genesee adverting campaign took home a Judge’s Citation award in the Advertising category. The campaign included print and online advertising, billboards, postcards, a holiday card, the faculty and staff directory, the President’s Annual Report and social media efforts such as Facebook and Twitter.
Winning a Judge’s Citation award in the Excellence in Institutional Relations category was the 2008-2009 President’s Annual Report, a high-quality report that shares news, events, enrollment and financial statistics as well as lists donors and supporters of the College. The report features hundreds of authentic Genesee students throughout its 16 pages. The report showcases the variety of interest, ages, and talents of Genesee’s varied student population.
The Student Activities monthly newsletter, “Cliff Notes” also brought home a Judges Citation award in the Excellence in Internal Communication category under Internal Newsletters. The 11”x17” folded, full-color newsletter highlights the many activities available to students throughout the month. “Cliff Notes” is named after the director of Student Activities, Clifford Scutella, who is very popular with the students and has served at GCC for over 20 years. “Cliff Notes” is sent out across campus and is always posted online on the Students Activities webpage located at www.genesee.edu/students/newsletter.
