Lima, NY- Once again, there’s something for everyone at the Lima Campus Center as the following line-up of entertainment and educational opportunities illustrates.
Hot music, hot lights and hot dogs - all free! - For two summer evenings, the general public is invited to enjoy hot music, hot lights and hot dogs for FREE at the Lima Campus Center of Genesee Community College. With free outdoor music and refreshments, guests are encouraged to bring their comfortable lawn chairs to enjoy the summer serenades. (The event will be moved inside with inclement weather.) The two hot nights under the stars will feature:
- Smoking Hot Pipes, the all-male a cappella group on Tuesday, July 19 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
- American Idol contestant, Jonathan Stills on Thursday, August 18 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Kids College - For daytime events, students entering first through sixth grade are invited to attend Kids College at the Lima Campus Center. Kids will learn science, art, language, theatre and even nutrition by preparing their own healthy snacks! Parents are invited to enroll their children in Kids College to embrace the wide curriculum and to make new friends. The two week program runs August 8 - 19, 2011 with each session running 8:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. With seats, parents are encouraged to sign up their children quickly by contacting Barbara McAdoo at firstname.lastname@example.org or 585-582-1226 extension 4501.
Thursday Nights at the Movies- For more summer entertainment, look no further than the Lima Campus Center than Thursday Nights at the Movies with each free feature starting at 7:00p.m.
- “Blue Hawaii” with Elvis on June 16
- “Weekend at Bernie’s” on July 21
- “National Lampoon’s Vacation” on August 18
Monday Movie Matinees are planned for throughout the summer providing a little air-conditioned reprieve from a hot summer day. Each of the following free feature films will begin at 1:00 p.m.
- “Sleepless in Seattle” on June 13
- “It Happened One Night” on July 11
- “Annie Hall” on August 8.
LEAP - Officials at Genesee Community College are delighted to introduce the Lima Educational Access Program or LEAP scholarship opportunity providing $10,000 in new funding targeted to new Lima Campus Center students and or current part-time students interested in transitioning to full-time status at GCC / Lima. Applications for ten $1,000 scholarships are now being accepted for the fall 2011 academic semester and students from all walks of life are encouraged to apply from home schooled students, adult students changing careers, students who have earned a GED diploma, and any part-time Lima Campus Center student advancing to full-time status. LEAP scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need as measured by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application.
Genesee Promise Plus offers another exciting scholarship opportunity for summer study and provides scholarships for two summer courses to 2011 high school graduates in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, or Wyoming Counties. The Genesee Promise Plus scholarship covers tuition cost for up to two courses during the July 5-August 6 summer session for any 2011 high school graduate attending and/or residing in GCC’s GLOW service area, as well as GED earners, and home school graduates. Additionally, 2011 high school graduates from any district who have accumulated GCC college credits through the College’s ACE Program are eligible to participate. The deadline for submitting the Genesee Promise Plus Scholarship applications is June 17. It is available at: http://www.genesee.edu/gcc/promise/.
