Eight time Buffalo Music Award winning Jazz Band BABIK will be performing at Genesee for a special concert in June. Babik (pronounced Bah-beek) is scheduled to take the stage on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stuart Steiner Theater.
The four members of the gypsy jazz band all agree they are inspired by legendary guitarist, Diango Reinhardt. After being in a number of bands of different genres, members are glad to have found a “home” with gypsy jazz.
Babik's performances are a blend of jaw dropping virtuosity, passionate improvisations, and humor. Babik, the name of Django's son plays the WW2 era swing of Django Reinhardt, along with original jazz music. Babik has been featured on National Public Radio's "The World", have toured throughout the northeast and beyond, as well as recently collaborating with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for an orchestral version of Gypsy Jazz .
One of the biggest comments we get after every show is ‘You guys look like you’re having so much fun,” Joshua Assad said in a radio interview. “Well, we’re not faking it, we’re not acting it. We have a great time every time we play. We love playing this music.”
