Lima, New York- Scholarships abound at the Lima Campus Center of Genesee Community College! Associate Dean Monica Mattioli is pleased to announce the Lima Educational Access Program -LEAP -a scholarship opportunity providing $10,000 in new funding targeted to prospective new students and students transitioning into full-time status studying at GCC at Lima. Applications are available for ten $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded to students enrolling in the fall 2011 academic semester. These scholarships further enhance existing funding opportunities, supplementing the ongoing Genesee Promise Plus summer scholarship program for 2011 high school graduates attending and/or residing in the GLOW region, as well as GLOW residents earning the GED in 2011.
The LEAP Scholarship provides financial assistance specifically to students attending Genesee Community College at Lima Campus Center. Students from all walks of life are encouraged to apply including home schooled students; adult students who may be changing careers; students who have earned a GED diploma and are exploring a new career possibilities, and any part-time Lima Campus Center student advancing to full-time status. This assistance not only makes higher education a reality for students who otherwise could not afford it, but it also helps part-time students transition into full-time study, expediting degree completion and the achievement of career goals. Students can also apply for other forms of financial aid including TAP funds and PELL grants.
LEAP Scholarship applications are due by June 15th for 2011 Summer Session beginning July 5th, and by July 25 for Fall 2011 semester, starting August 22. Details about scholarships, financial aid and specific application forms and other scholarship opportunities are available on GCC’s website www.genesee.edu/financial/scholarships or by visiting the Lima Campus Center. LEAP scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need as measured by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application.
“The Lima Campus Center exists to provide opportunities for community members of all ages to gather and expand their horizons,” Monica Mattioli, associate dean of the Lima Campus Center said. “LEAP scholarships will give ten people the added boost to make their dreams and career aspirations a come true.”
As with all Genesee Community College scholarships and grants, LEAP funding will be carefully overseen by the college’s Financial Aid office and assigned committees.
The Genesee Promise Plus offers another exciting scholarship opportunity for summer study. This program, offered at all Genesee Community College locations, provides scholarships for two summer courses to 2011 high school graduates in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, or Wyoming Counties. The Genesee Promise Plus scholarship covers tuition costs for up to two courses during the July 5-August 6 summer session to any 2011 high school graduate attending and/or residing in the GLOW area. GLOW region GED earners and home school graduates are also eligible for Genesee Promise Plus. Additionally, 2011 high school graduates from any district who have accumulated GCC college credits through the College’s ACE Program are eligible to participate. The deadline for submitting the Genesee Promise Plus Scholarship Application is June 17.
