Golf Places 2nd at WNYAC Chapmionships; Ferdinand 1st Team!

The Golf team Placed 2nd at the 2011 Western NY Athletic Conference Championship, Ferdinand named 1st Team All Star, Kocent and DeCook get the nod as 2nd Team All Stars On Saturday, the GCC Golf team competed in the Western NY Conference Championship at a soggy Willowbrook golf course in Lockport, NY.

On Saturday, the Golf team competed in the Western NY Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Championship at a soggy Willowbrook golf course in Lockport, NY. On an unseasonably warm and sunny day, Genesee finished second to Monroe CC, as they posted a score of 323 to Monroe’s 299.

Sophomore Matt Ferdinand (Rome, NY), was named a WNYAC First Team All Star with a fine score of 78, while freshman Corey Kocent (Batavia, NY) was named a Second Team All Star with an 80. Also earning Second team honors was sophomore Mark DeCook (Seneca Castle, NY) who shot a season low 81. Freshman Kyle Harman (Orchard Park,, NY) rounded out the scoring for Genesee with a score of 84; sophomore Adam Bishop (Pembroke, NY) also competed for the Cougars.

Taking top individual honors for the tournament was Monroe’s Anthony Colosi with a score of 73.

The Cougars Golf team has another busy weekend ahead of them as they travel to Corning Country Club on Friday 4/29 to take part in the Corning CC Invitational. On Sunday the team will travel to Elm Tree Golf Course in Cortland, NY to take part in the Tompkins-Cortland CC Invitational.
