The Men’s Lacrosse team defeated Herkimer CCC 10-9 in overtime Thursday evening at Herkimer. The win is their ninth in a row and propels the #4 nationally ranked Cougars to 9-1 on the season. Freshman midfielder Christian Reiller (Salamanca, NY) won the game, scoring a goal roughly 30 seconds in the extra session. Reiller finished the game with two goals and one assist. Only ¾ of the way through the season and freshman Connor Latimer (Whitby, ON) has set a new team record for most points in a season with 61 points. Latimer scored a goal and assisted on four others for five points on the evening.
Genesee took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but Herkimer fought back and through multiple lead changes the score was 6-5 Genesee at halftime. In the third quarter the two teams continued to go back forth with Herkimer taking an 8-7 edge into the fourth. The Cougars scored two quick goals in the fourth for the lead but with two minutes remaining Herkimer tied the game to force overtime.
Freshman goalie Zack Wilson (Lewis Center, OH) made 16 saves on 25 shots, while freshman Gaehnew Printup (Tuscarora, NY) led the Cougars in scoring with three goals, he also had one assist. Rounding out the scoring were freshmen Spencer Halliwell-Allen (St. Catherines, ON) and Will Mulcahy (Batavia, NY) who each had two goals. Sophomore defensemen JD Skura (Clarence, NY) led the defense with five groundballs and three takeaways.
The Cougars will continue their three game road stretch as they travel to Hudson Valley CC Sunday, April 17; with a 1:00 pm start.
