The Genesee Baseball team extended its winning streak to five with a double header wins over Finger Lakes CC. Genesee won the first game 7-3 and the second game 4-2. The Cougars are now 8-5 on the season.
In game one the team was led by sophomore Jacob Featherstone (Ajax, ON) who went 3-for-4, with a double. Fellow sophomore Manny Hernandez (Valencia, Venezuela) was 2-3 with a home run. On the mound sophomore left-handed-pitcher Greg Rapp (Cambridge, ON) got the win going six innings and giving up three runs on eight hits. In the seventh sophomore Bryan Pyper (Toronto, ON) came in to face three batters, striking out two.
The second game saw the team struggling to hit down 0-2, when the Cougars came roaring back to score all four runs in the seventh inning to take the victory. Down 1-2, freshman Bryan Depew (Wellsville, NY) tied the game with a home run. Genesee scored the final two runs on an error for the win. Sophomore left-handed-pitcher Shaun Slemko (Courtice, ON) pitched a very strong game with the win going all seven innings, walking none while striking out five.
The team will play their home opener this Saturday (April, 9) as they take on Ithaca College’s JV team in double header fashion beginning at 1 pm.
