The Genesee Golf team competed in its first tournament of the season Friday at the Mohawk Valley Invitational, at the Skenandoa Golf Club in Clinton, NY.
The course was soggy, but the weather was unusually mild for this time of the year, and Matt Ferdinand, a 2nd year player for Genesee stepped up his game and tied for 2nd place individual honors in the 49 player field with a score of 78.
Genesee’s team effort was good enough for third place in the nine team field with a team score of 324. Onondaga CC finished 2nd with a score 320, and Monroe CC won with a score of 311. Anthony Colosi of Monroe was medalist with a score of 77, edging out Ferdinand by one stroke.
Genesee’s Kyle Harman, last year’s regional champion when he played at Erie CC, shot 81, former Batavia High standout Corey Kocent shot 82, and Alex Muench shot 83 to round out the team score. Mark DeCook and Adam Bishop also participated for Cougars.
Other schools competing were: Mohawk Valley CC, Corning CC, Adirondack CC, Tompkins Cortland CC, Jefferson CC, and Columbia Greene CC
GCC plays again next weekend - April 15, 16, and 17 with conference tournaments at the Jamestown CC - Cattaraugus Invitational on Friday at the Bartlett Country Club in Olean NY, on Saturday at the Jamestown CC Invitational at the Chautauqua Golf Club, and on Sunday at the WNYAC Championship Tournament at the Lockport Country Club.
