Women's Basketball Closes Season at Nationals

The 2010-11 Women's Basketball season came to close with a loss to Kalamazoo Valley CC at the 2011 NJCAA Division II National Basketball tournament.  #16 seed Genesee lost to the #9 Kalamazoo 75-66.

The 2010-11 Women's Basketball season came to a close with a loss to Kalamazoo Valley CC at the 2011 NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National tournament, hosted by Illinois Central College in East Peoria, IL. The #16 seed Genesee Cougars lost to the #9 Kalamazoo Valley Cougars 75-66. Leading the way for the Lady Cougars was sophomore Krystie Laurey (Horseheads, NY) who had 28 points and six rebounds.

Kalamazoo stretched its 43-34 halftime lead to 17 points in the second half before Genesee fought back to get within four points. Kalamazoo’s height advantage however, proved to be a key factor in their victory as they were able to out rebound, and force Genesee to shoot 35% from the field.

Additional Lady Cougars having strong performances in the game include: sophomore De’Yara Burrell (Rochester, NY) with 11 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Jasmine Armstead (Rochester, NY) chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Jayvonna Kincannon (Buffalo, NY) played aggressive defense coming up with four steals.
