Women's Basketball Loses to #1 Seed Pima

The #16 seeded Genesee Women's Basketball team lost to #1 seed Pima Community College 77-65 in the opening round of the 2011 NJCAA Division II National Women's Basketball Tournament, hosted by Illinois Central College in East Peoria IL.

The #16 seeded Genesee Women’s Basketball team lost to #1 seed Pima Community College 77-65 in the opening round of the 2011 NJCAA Division II National Women’s Basketball Tournament, hosted by Illinois Central College in East Peoria IL. The Lady Cougars will now face #9 Kalamazoo Valley CC in the consolation bracket.

The Lady Cougars pressure defensive proved to be tough for the Aztecs as Genesee forced 27 turnovers in the game and led 34-43 at halftime. Sophomores De’Yara Burrell (Rochester, NY) and Krystie Laurey (Horseheads, NY) led the Lady Cougars; Burrell had 23 points and five assists, while Laurey finished with 21 points, four defensive steals and went 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Fellow sophomore Shakatta Brown (Rochester, NY) chipped in with eight points and four steals.
