Lima, New York- The Lima Campus Center of Genesee Community College will host a College Connection day on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 9:00am-3:00pm. The College Connection is an opportunity for students and their families to visit the Lima campus for a ‘one-stop’ experience with local higher education institutions, community-based organizations and a day of family fun. This event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be available.

Colleges offering transfer opportunities will be SUNY Empire State College, Keuka College, Medaille College, Roberts Wesleyan College and Elim Bible College. Community organizations representing health care, veteran’s services, youth programs and others will also be in attendance. The Red Cross babysitting training course, with advance registration and fee required, is also scheduled for the campus center on the same day. College Connection will encompass the entire continuum from families looking for a fun day out, high school students seeking college credits, people who have completed some college, senior citizens auditing classes for enrichment and companies desirous of workforce training.

“Since the day we opened in September of 2009, Lima and surrounding communities have warmly welcomed GCC. We’d like to show our appreciation by providing relevant, informative – and fun – opportunities for community members of all ages to gather and expand their horizons,” Monica Mattioli, associate dean of the Lima Campus Center said. “College Connection will provide a host of interesting resources in one place, with GCC-specific information about credit and noncredit courses, advisement and registration for summer and fall semesters; financial aid information; four year colleges with transfer information; and community organizations sharing information about their services. At the same time, this will be a unique opportunity for folks of all ages to come out, have some fun and treats, and experience the new campus.”

Lima Campus Center, along with Genesee Community College’s other locations in Batavia, Albion, Arcade, Dansville, Medina and Warsaw, will again offer summer courses under the Genesee Promise Plus banner to all Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, or Wyoming County (GLOW) 2011 high school graduates. Under the Genesee Promise Plus Scholarship program, every 2011 high school graduate who attended a GLOW area high school or lives in the GLOW region is eligible to receive a scholarship covering the cost of tuition for one or two GCC courses during the July 5-August 6 summer session. The Genesee Promise Plus program also includes the following students:

  • Students who live in the four-county GLOW service area who earned a GED Diploma in 2011 are eligible for a full tuition scholarship for two summer courses, regardless of age.
  • 2011 GLOW area graduates from home-school programs.
  •  2011 high school graduates who attended high schools outside of the GLOW service area but have accumulated GCC college credits through the College’s ACE Program are eligible to participate.

The deadline for submitting the Genesee Promise Plus Scholarship Application is June 17, and the Lima Campus Center College Connection is the perfect opportunity to fill out the scholarship application and register for summer classes.
