From computers to sleep disorders to ‘going green’ to social media, Genesee Community College’s revitalized Speaker’s Bureau has an assortment of guest speakers and topics to offer local community groups at no cost to their organization. This community resource has recently been updated and revamped with new, relevant topics to interest any community or civic group that wishes to use the list. The Speaker’s Bureau list can be found at www.genesee.edu/resources/SpeakersBureau.cfm.

New to the Speaker’s Bureau is the addition of topics on the new academic programs, Polysomnographic Technology (sleep studies) and Veterinary Technology. Directors Marshann Thomas and Kathryn Sewerniak will provide overviews of the programs as well as how their respective topics are relevant to everyday life. Other new topics include Social Media for Your Organization by New Media Specialist Kevin Manne and 101 Ways to Go Green by Earth Club Advisor and associate director of Marketing Communications, Donna Rae Sutherland.

“Social media can be a valuable resource for your business or organization,” said Kevin Manne. “It’s no longer just for college students or teens looking to make connections with friends. Your group or business should also have a presence and voice in social media to connect with new customers, employees and potential partners. And, the majority of sites and tools are free to use and have great potential reach, making them invaluable for marketing – with the right plan.”

There are 12 topic areas with over 50 presentations available to the community, at no cost to their organizations. Topic areas include Business, Current Issues, Health, Home, Travel, Arts and Culture, Technology and Education, to name a few.

“There is a wealth of knowledge to be shared from the College,” Donna Rae Sutherland said. “Whether you have a social group or civic group wishing to learn about a certain topic, Genesee can help and is here to serve the community with this free resource.”
