The Genesee Women’s Basketball team ran past Mercyhurst NE Thursday night as they defeated the Saints 81-61. Scoring big for the Cougars was sophomore Krystie Laurey (Horseheads, NY) who led Genesee in both points and total rebounds with 30 and eight respectfully.
The Lady Cougars ran to a first half lead of 43-34, with a major part of that being Genesee’s ability to capitalize on the Saints turnovers, with 18 of the 81 points coming from this category. Also having a big day was freshman Mary Cain (Niagara Falls, NY) who was 3 of 5 from 3-point range with a total of 13 points and eight total rebounds. While sophomore Shakatta Brown (Rochester, NY) was close behind with 11 points and six total rebounds.
The Lady Cougars will return to action Tuesday February 8, as they take on Jamestown CC at home with a 6 pm start time.
