The Swimming & Diving teams took to the water at the Erie CC January Invitational on Saturday, for most of the team it was their first competition since departing before break. Additionally, the meet provided an opportunity for the team to get acquainted with the same facility that will be used to host the 2011 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Nationals in March. Out of the seven teams present the women’s team finished in fourth place with 125 points, while the men came in fifth with 127 points; Monroe Community College won on both sides with scores of 769 and 836 points respectfully.
Strong performances for the Cougars were put in throughout the day with the following garnering top-10 finishes: Freshman Yoshi Kuribayashi (Yokohama-City, Japan) took second in the 200 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 freestyle. Also, having strong finishes in the 200 breaststroke was sophomore Justin Perry (Batavia, NY) and freshman Max Brady (Akron, NY) finishing fourth and tenth respectfully. Max also had a ninth place finish in the 50 freestyle. Finishing out the men was freshman diver Rob Harder (Letchworth, NY) who took fourth on the 3-meter board and seventh on 1-meter.
For the women sophomore Alysha Phillips (Attica, NY) took sixth place in both the 200 freestyle and the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle. Continuing with the 50 freestyle freshman Emily Mott (Oakfield, NY) and sophomore Kristina Kasper (Albion, NY) took eighth and tenth in the event; they also teamed up to finish sixth and seventh in the 500 freestyle.
Both teams will continue their season when they visit Monroe CC for a dual meet this Wednesday (January 26) at 6 pm .
