Community members can start their Mother’s Day weekend off on the right foot by participating in Trek the Trail at Genesee Community College, a new walkathon to support student scholarships. Individuals and teams will trek the Batavia Campus on Saturday, May 7, 2011 to raise funds for the Genesee Community College Foundation’s scholarship fund. Participants are encouraged to come dressed up in various themes to compete for prizes.
The Trek the Trail will begin with registration at 9:30am in the Theatre Lobby with the walk starting at 10:00am. The nearly two mile Trek will have numerous stops along the way for walkers to gather ‘Trek Treats’ and tour the campus. Stops along the way include the Nature Trail, new soccer stadium, baseball fields, new lighted tennis courts, College Village and the newly renovated gym. The walk will finish on the east side of campus with a pizza lunch and awards ceremony. Participants in the Trek will have the opportunity to compete for prizes as individuals and as teams. Prizes will be awarded to teams and individuals with the most creative costumes and the most pledges.
Led by chair person Margaret (Peggy) Sisson ’71, director of Athletics at Genesee, and a committee of dedicated alumni – the Trek takes a fresh spin on traditional walkathons.
“We really want this event to bring community members to the College and see all the wonderful new facilities and improvements that have been done to the campus,” Sisson said. “We encourage local businesses, civic groups, and church groups to gather a team and Trek the Trail! All proceeds will benefit students seeking scholarships at Genesee.”
Registration for Trek the Trail is $15 per person or $50 per team with no limit on the number of team members. Individuals who raise $100 or more in pledges will have their registration fee waived, and teams that raise $500 or more in pledges will also have their registration fee waived. All participants will receive a t-shirt, lunch and ‘Trek Treats’ as part of their registration fee.
Details will be posted on the GCC Alumni website at www.genesee.edu/Alumni. Sponsorship opportunities for Trek the Trail are still available and can be arranged by contacting Jackie Christenson, Alumni Affairs Coordinator, at 585-343-0055 x6265 or email@example.com.
