At a recent Wyoming County division kickoff meeting for Genesee Community College Foundation’s annual campaign, Monica Hale Dawson ’72, general chair of the 2010-2011 campaign stated: “Last fall 1,047 residents of Wyoming County attended classes at Genesee Community College. When students enroll, every avenue of financial help is explored and sometimes the additional support provided through the Foundation can make the final steps possible. Last year scholarship awards totaled $263,707!”

Ms. Dawson then introduced Teresa Eddy, bank manager at Five Star Bank’s Attica office as the Wyoming County division chair for the annual drive.

Ms. Eddy announced that her campaign team is enthusiastic in its endeavor to help residents of Wyoming County raise their hopes and dreams of obtaining a degree in higher education to enable their future success and enhance the overall community. “Through higher education and training, they will improve their market skills and contributions to our labor force,” Ms. Eddy said. “Statistics uphold the fact that students who study close to their home tend to settle close to home. Estimates show that two-thirds of the 20,617 GCC alumni live and work in the Western New York region.”

Ms. Eddy said, “Every able resident of Wyoming County can help by supporting the Wyoming division of the annual campaign. We are fortunate to have close access to the Batavia campus, but even more convenient for many residents are the Warsaw and Arcade campus centers. “

The Arcade area has offered Genesee Community College classes since 1984 and the campus center on Edward Street has been opened since 1994 and since increased classroom space to accommodate growing student enrollment. Likewise, the Warsaw campus center on Linwood Avenue first opened on North Main Street in 1991. A visit to either facility finds classrooms, computer labs and a welcoming staff and atmosphere to enhance learning.

Ms. Eddy added, “Personal calls have been made by our campaign team and letters with pledge cards have been mailed. Your action of enclosing a gift is now needed. Please invest in our community and our residents, our future leaders and employees. They need your support!”

The Genesee Community College Foundation was formed in the mid-eighties as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing service to and support of the College. Its thirty-member board of directors is comprised of business and civic leaders.

Contributions for support for the College programs and students may be sent to the Genesee Community College Foundation, One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020. For more information contact the Foundation (585) 345-6809 or foundation@genesee.edu.
