Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Cindy Hagelberger has been named December Employee of the Month. Cindy has been at Genesee since September 1996 when she was first hired as a part-time reference librarian. During the past fourteen years, Cindy has taken on and assumed many additional duties including that of cataloging librarian and working with the archives collection. Cindy’s high level of organizational skills and keen attention to detail enhance and improve access to both the library’s holdings and the wide array of material in the archives. She responds to the numerous and frequently urgent requests for materials from the archives and is also a key contributor to many programs and projects that expand and improve library services. Most recently, Cindy created a large timeline display of the College’s history for the first ever homecoming event. This timeline has been enjoyed by many visitors, alumni, and community members.

Prior to working at the GCC library, Cindy worked at the Smith Memorial Library at the Chautauqua Institution and also worked as a reference librarian at the James Prendergast Library in Jamestown, NY. Cindy also had a brief stint as FM secretary/librarian at WNED-FM in Buffalo while she was attending the University at Buffalo. Cindy holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication Arts/Literature from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and a Master’s of Library Science from the University at Buffalo.

“My favorite aspect of working at Genesee Community College is that my friendly co-workers are like my second family and having the chance to interact with students from all walks of life is always interesting,” Cindy said.

Cindy resides in Bennington, NY with her husband Jim and her daughter Kathleen and her son Michael. She is a self proclaimed ‘Hockey Mom’ and she enjoys figure skating, sewing and organizing. Cindy noted “if I wasn’t a librarian, I would probably be a professional organizer!”
