In an effort to reach more students with busy schedules, Genesee Community College will offer THE205: Audition Techniques on Saturdays from 10:00AM-1:00PM in the spring 2011 semester. Taught by Genesee’s director of Fine and Performing Arts, Maryanne Arena, this Theatre Arts course will help Fine Arts majors complete their degree requirements more conveniently and timely.
THE205 explores the audition process and prepares students to choose appropriate material for the individual actor. The course reviews and continues the exploration of a variety of acting styles (Stanislavski, Method, Meisner). The class will also teach resume writing techniques, how to select a photographer and appropriate pictures, and interviewing skills for working with producers and directors. The course covers the audition process, breaking a monologue into objectives and beats, and performing several monologues in an array of genres. Prerequisites for this course include THE103: Fundamentals of Acting and THE203: Developing a Character, as well as instructor approval.
“With more and more students balancing work and family, being able to offer a class on Saturday mornings just makes sense,” Maryanne Arena said. “We hope that busy students can take advantage of all of the Saturday and Sunday course offerings this spring.”
Spring 2011 classes begin on Tuesday, January 18 and run through May 14, 2011. For further information please contact Maryanne Arena at 585-343-0055 x6439 or MCArena@genesee.edu .
