Batavia, NY- Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Joseff Smith has been named November Student of the Month. Joe is an outstanding student both in the classroom and out. As a work study student in the Student Activities area, he is diligent and frequently volunteers his services to help enhance student programming. He has great insight into what innovative programs will be successful. Joe is a member of the men’s soccer team and is an excellent role model, always eager to help with equipment, and he has a tremendous desire to improve himself both on and off the field. Joe possesses a high level of integrity, shows great respect for others, and is one of those people who lives up to the old adage of being a “scholar and a gentleman.”
Joseff, 21, is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Once he graduated from homeschooling in 2007, he took a year off and travelled to Hawaii for a mission trip and to Washington state.
“I prayed a lot about where the Lord wanted me to go after high school, and I really felt led to get involved in my local church before I started school somewhere else in the country,” Joseff said. “I enrolled at Genesee because it was close to where I lived, and I thought it would be a good start to my college career. It was affordable, and I could stay involved in local ministries while completing many credits that I could transfer somewhere else.”
Joe is a Teacher Education Transfer major and will graduate in December 2010. While at Genesee he also anticipates completing his Coaching certification. He hopes to be able to take the spring semester off and travel to Uganda, Africa or back to Hawaii on another mission trip. Once he returns he hopes to transfer to a four year school.
Joseff has been named to the President’s List three times and the Dean’s List once. Last year he was selected as an Academic All Region Athlete, and was selected by the NJCAA as a Distinguished Academic All American. Joseff has also been named Athlete of the Week. Joseff resides with his father Jeff and mother Shelly in Albion, NY along with his siblings Dutch, Josh and Julie.
