Genesee Community College joins the rest of the country in the national America Recycles Day on Monday, November 15, 2010. From 9:00am-2:30pm in the Forum at the Batavia Campus, students, faculty, staff and community members are being asked to bring in numerous items to be donated to local agencies or properly disposed of. The specific Items being collected on November 15 during America Recycles Day at Genesee are:
Gently-used winter wear (especially for children) to be donated to Community Action of Orleans and Genesee for local distribution,
Magazines designated for waiting rooms in area hospitals, clinics and other public spaces
Dry cell batteries including nickel, silver, mercury and alkaline which will be properly disposed by Waste Management. Items can be donated at the Earth Club table set up in the centrally located William W. Stuart Forum.
“This year’s theme is ‘I recycle. Do you?’ and I think that speaks to so many students here at GCC,” Yvonne Gavett, president of the Earth Club said. “Recycling is a simple, yet important task that anyone can partake in. We hope that the College community as well as the local community participates by donating their gently used winter clothing, magazine and batteries. Every little bit that can be reused or recycled makes a big difference!”
Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day. More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States. One day to inform and educate. One day to get neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when communities work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year.
