GCC Wins First Match in NJCAA DIII Nationals 3-1 over Ocean CC

The GCC women's soccer team (18-1-2) defeated Ocean CC 3 - 1 in the NJCAA Women's Soccer National Tournament Quarterfinals held at Anne Arundel CC in Maryland on Friday November 5th, 2010. Ocean CC pressed GCC hard all day, but in the end GCC made the most out of their scoring opportunities.

The GCC women's soccer team (18-1-2) defeated Ocean CC 3 - 1 in the NJCAA Women's Soccer National Tournament Quarterfinals held at Anne Arundel CC in Maryland on Friday November 5th, 2010.

Ocean CC pressed GCC hard all day, but in the end GCC made the most out of their scoring opportunities.

Freshman Ali Cashmore (Akron, NY) put the lady cougars on the board just 5 minutes into play on a head ball off a cross from Sophomore Jessie Jaszko (Batavia, NY). Ocean CC Sophomore Christie Knee scored their only goal of the match with 23 minutes in the 1st half.

Freshman Cady Hume (Batavia, NY) scored the game winning goal with 14 minutes left in the 1st half to put the lady cougars up 2-1.

During the first 15 minutes of the second half Ocean CC came out strong and high pressured GCC's defense, but the Lady Cougars finally got control of the ball and started to maintain possession. Freshman Catherine Mucha (Dalton, NY) put away the win on a diagonal pass from Jessie Jaszko (Batavia, NY) late in the 2nd half, as GCC outshot Ocean CC by a 10-6 margin.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Adele Zeh (Nunda, NY) played huge in net for the team registering 9 saves.

GCC's next match is The NJCAA National Semi-Finals Saturday November 6th, 2010 at 4:45 pm at Prince George's Community College (MD) versus Howard Community College.
