Swimming & Diving Splits Season Opener

The swimming and diving teams took to the water for the first time in the 2010-11 season, hosting Alfred State College. The teams split the outcome with the men defeating Alfred State 100-92, and the women falling short with a score of 87-60.

Both the men and women started the meet off with a bang winning the 200 medley relay events. The women’s relay consisted of freshman Carrie Dylag, sophomore Alysha Phillips, freshman Emily Mott and freshman Lauren Hughes. Leading the men was the freshman relay of Brady Smith, Yoshi Kuribayashi, Rob Harder, and Max Brady.
Moving to distance, Freshman Kento Ishikawa took home first place in the 1,000 yd freestyle with a winning time of 12:11.89. The 50 yd freestyle saw a sweep by the freshman duo of Emily Mott and Amber Shults for the women; while, the freshman trio of Max Brady, Neil Kabesh, and Joe Agerskow 2-3-4’d the men’s 50 yd. freestyle.
Meanwhile, the 200 IM saw Alysha Phillips take second place for the women, while freshman Yoshi Kuribayashi and sophomore Justin Perry teamed up to take first and fourth for the men. Rob Harder took first place in the men’s diving with a score of 169.72 points. Heading into the second half of the meet following diving, both the men and women held a lead over Alfred, with scores of 54-38 and 36-32 respectfully.
The second half of the meet saw strong performances by freshman Carrie Dylag who won the 100 yd butterfly, while Emily Mott and Amber Shults again teamed up to take second and third in the 100 yd. freestyle. In the 100 yd backstroke Brady Smith took first place honors with a time 1:07.15. Lauren Hughes and sophomore Brad Blair both took second place in the 500 yd. freestyle events. The meet was capped by a close race in the men’s 100 yd breaststroke with Kuribayashi and Perry again teaming up for first and second with times of 1:11.79 and 1:14.20.
The teams take to the water again this Saturday November 6, 2010 as they host the Genesee Harvest Invitational, hosting Alfred State, Erie CC, SUNY Delhi, Herkimer CCC, and Jamestown CC at 1:00pm.
