Volleyball wins Conference Championship

Genesee Volleyball remains undefeated in Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) play (13-0) as the team won the WNYAC championships this weekend. Genesee defeated Niagara County Community College in the semi-finals 25-21, 26-24, and 25-19.

Genesee Volleyball remains undefeated in Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) play (13-0) as the team won the WNYAC championships this weekend. Genesee defeated Niagara County Community College in the semi-finals 25-21, 26-24, and 25-19. They then faced Monroe Community College in the championship match; defeating Monroe in three games with scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-20.
In the semi-final match against Niagara, tournament MVP Austin Bishop (Toronto, ON) and Megan Curry (Byron, NY) came out on fire registering 20 and 12 kills respectfully. Curry added to her performance by having six blocks. Paige Tilert (Derby, NY) was named to the all-tournament team, with her stellar performance on defense registering 36 digs, 7 kills, and 5 aces. Steady play continued into the third game where the serving prowess of Shelly Fuller (Turmansburg, NY) and Maria Antsupova (Ozersk, Russia) won out; Fuller had 27 assists and seven digs, while Antsupova registered 15 digs and 12 kills.
In the final match over Monroe, Mikela Caseria (Mililani, HI) opened up the offense with 34 assists, 8 digs, 3 kills. Caseria fed Austin and all-tournament team selection Sarah Ward (Rochester, NY) who had 14 kills, 16 digs, 3 blocks. Paige Tilert ended the first game with two aces. The second game of the match was broken open thanks to the stellar serving of Maria Antsupova and ended on a kill by Hannah Scott-McGrail (Batavia, NY). In the third game the match was finished by an Austin Bishop kill on a fortuitous play that sealed the title. Also chipping into the effort were Kristie Barger (Lima, NY) with 25 digs, and Del Lessard (Rochester, NY) with 10 kills and three blocks.
In addition to the All Tournament Nominees, Austin Bishop-Carimbocas, Sarah Ward and Paige Tilert, the All WNYAC teams were also announced. Mikela Caseria and Maria Antsupova were named to the all-WNYAC third team, Paige Tilert was named to the all-WNYAC second team and Sarah Ward was named to the all-WNYAC first team.
