Cougar Baseball Earns #1 Seed in Tournament

The Genesee Community College baseball team won three out of four games this weekend to finish with the best regular season record at 7-3 in the Western New York Athletic Conference. The team earned a bye for the first round as they were seeded 1st and will play the winner of Erie Community College and Jamestown Community College.

The Genesee Community College baseball team won three out of four games this weekend to finish with the best regular season record at 7-3 in the Western New York Athletic Conference. The team earned a bye for the first round as they were seeded 1st and will play the winner of Erie Community College and Jamestown Community College. The Cougars will play at 11am on Saturday at Dwyer Stadium. If the team wins, they will play again at 5pm for the Conference title. Last year, the team won the title for the second time in four years by defeating Monroe Community College.

On Saturday, the team split games with Niagara County Community College losing the first game 3-1 and winning the second game 6-2. In the first game, Shaun Slemko gave up three unearned runs in the first inning. In game two, Dan Sharpe earned his second win of the fall season pitching all seven innings.

On Sunday, the team beat Alfred State College twice 4-0 and 12-2. Greg Rapp won the first game going the distance allowing no runs on three hits, while striking out six. John Polonius went three for three with three RBI’s. John Broll and Manny Hernandez each had two hits. In game two, the team exploded for 10 runs in the third inning to cruse to a 12-2 mercy run win.
