The Medina Sandstone Society will present the Medina Campus Center of Genesee Community College with a recognition plaque on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Campus Center. The unveiling will take place at 3:30pm and will include a special recognition of President Stuart Steiner for his years of service and support of campus centers.
The ceremony will begin with remarks by James Simon, associate dean of the Medina Campus Center and followed by remarks from local elected officials and dignitaries. Robert Waters and John Slack of the Medina Sandstone Society will present Dr. Steiner with a plaque for his commitment of providing local college education to small communities throughout the GLOW region. The ceremony will be followed by a small punch and cookie reception.
“This is event really demonstrates the commitment that Genesee Community College and Dr. Steiner have made to our local communities,” James Simon said. “We’re thankful for the handcrafted sandstone plaque that will be featured at the Medina Center and it will be a reminder of the wonderful communities that surround the College for years to come.”
Founded in 2004, the Medina Sandstone Society today is a New York State not-for-profit corporation with the purpose of becoming a viable community asset to aid local programs. The Sandstone Society has engaged in a wide variety of activities, including understanding the renowned stone itself, fostering community support and esteem, supporting local projects and celebrations, encouraging historic preservation and establishing a Medina civic endowment named the Sandstone Trust.
