On a chilly, cloudy day in Batavia the Genesee CC Men's soccer team beat regional powerhouse Monroe CC 2-1. In a tightly contested game the Cougars went into the half-time break leading 1-0. The Cougars caught the Tribunes off guard on Josh Gray's quick throw in, which Kaleo Ameida (Brazil) then crossed in for Joel Brien (England) to head for his second goal this season.
The cougars went on the attack early in the second half with a couple of shots from Brady Smith going close. However MCC tied the game after some sloppy defending by GCC. Within 60 second of the restart, GCC had retaken the lead on a lightning quick counter attack started by Josh Gray (England) and finished by PJ Blackhouse (England) who had a solo run and shot past the keeper and into the far corner. The Tribunes fought hard late on for the equalizer but with a resilient GCC defense, and the superior goalkeeping of Jack West, they came up short.
Genesee returns to the field tonight at Erie Community College at 5:00pm.
