The Genesee Center for the Arts at Genesee Community College is pleased to announce a shortened calendar of events for its fall 2010 season. Currently the Stuart Steiner Theatre is undergoing an extensive lighting and rigging upgrade and the new Rosalie “Roz” Steiner Art Gallery is under construction, both expected to be completed by the end the year. The Center for the Arts is proud to bring two live performances and two exhibits to the community at large.

GENESEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA “American Fanfare”
October 24, 2010 4:00 pm
The Genesee Symphony Orchestra’s opens its 64th season with one performance at the Stuart Steiner Theatre, featuring “American Fanfare” GSO 2010 Young Artist Competition Winner, Melzie Case on Marimba. Selections include DVORAK: Symphony No. 9 (from the New World) and Sousa: Stars and Stripes Forever and El Capitan. Tickets: $12 adults, $8 seniors (62+), $5 students (18 & under or GCC students with a valid ID) or $30 Family (parent plus children 12 & under) available at the following locations: Hi-Tek Graphics in Oakfield, Bank of Castile in LeRoy, Roxy's Music Store, GoArt and the Enchanted Florist in Batavia. Tickets, if still available, will also be sold at the door one hour prior to the performance at the Box Office at the Stuart Steiner Theatre.

Fall Exhibitions in the Lobby Art Gallery:
The talent of both local artists and students from Genesee Community College and Brockport College fill the Stuart Steiner Lobby Art Gallery at the Genesee Center for the Arts this fall. Open during normal college hours, admission to the Lobby Art Gallery is free.
Dual Exhibit Featuring Melissa Mance-Coniglio and Jeanie Nutting

Melissa’s illustrative paintings combine humans and nature around themes of transformation and mythology. Jeannie is a talented mixed-media artist working in ceramics, painting, photography and found objects.
GCC and SUNY Brockport Study Abroad: A Documentation of Culture
November 4 - December 4
Gallery Opening: November 4 at 1PM
Creative writing and photographs displaying Dutch culture by Genesee and SUNY Brockport students that participated in a study abroad trip to Amsterdam in spring 2010. The show highlights student photographs that serve as a final curriculum culmination to the digital photography and sociology courses that the students participated in on the tour.
“Though Center for the Arts may have a lighter schedule early this academic year, we are very excited about upgrades to the lighting system inside the theatre and addition of a dedicated space for a new art gallery,” Maryanne Arena, director of Fine and Performing Arts said. “The College’s whole creative arts cluster—from the new facilities to the experienced faculty, are giving students and the community the chance to savor and enjoy entertainment and artistic expressions of the highest caliber.”
