The Genesee CC Men's Soccer team kicked off the season in their new stadium with a solid 2-1 victory over the visiting Broome CC Hornets. Despite dominating early play and squandering a number of chances, the Cougars fell behind to a rare counter attack from Broome. However, the lead was not held for long as the Cougars went back to their constant attack and were rewarded with a goal from Joel Brien (England) with the headed assist going to Brandon Reiner (Attica). The teams went into the second half tied 1-1 but the Cougars soon took the lead on a shot from Josh Gray (England) on a pass from Peter Keegan (Ireland). Although the Hornets attacked later on in the game, the few real chances they had were thwarted by game MVP Jeremy Voigt (Holley) and keeper Jack West (England).
The Cougars will be back in action home this Wednesday against Monroe Community College at 4:00pm.
