The Lady Cougars Soccer Team is looking forward to a very impelling fall season. After an amazing 2009, where the team broke many team records and had a chance to compete for the Divison III national title, the team has some high expectations for this year. The team has many returners that will lead the handful of newcomers to continue the team’s success!

The team returns nine players from last year’s squad including NSCAA All-American Jessie Jaszko (Batavia, NY). Jaskzo, a team captain, will have an enormous impact up on top for the Lady Cougars. Her speed, athleticism, and knack for the net will be superior in Region III. Another imperative player on the field for the Lady Cougars will be team captain Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade (Rochester, NY). She will be returning in the central midfield where she will lead with her technical ability as well as her aggressiveness on and off the ball. Other defensive returners include Captain Sarah McGrath (Churchville, NY), Jess Veltre (Churchville, NY), and Anna Mucha (Nunda, NY). These players bring experience, consistency, and knowledge of the game. Completing the roster of returnees is Shelby Walsh (Rochester, NY) who will be playing in the midfield and Adele Zeh (Nunda, NY) will be starting in Goal for the Lady Cougars.

Multiple newcomers are expected to make an immediate impact for Genesee. Freshman Catherine Mucha (Nunda, NY) will be an integral part to the success of the team. Her tactical awareness and size are dominating attributes in the midfield. Emily Troup (Holley, NY) is a tenacious player who is very versatile and can fill her role anywhere on the field. Kristen Paris (Holley, NY), and Jessica Laudico (Holley, NY) will all add depth and strength to the back line while Ali Cashmore (Akron, NY) and Cady Hume (Batavia, NY) contribute to our offensive attack with their speed and vision of the field.

The team is looking forward to competing in the Western New York Athletic Conference and defending the Region III Championship. Coach Kelly Gillow feels that this team will be very successful with the continued talent and increased depth in her lineup. “This team should be amongst the top teams in the region once again this season” states Gillow. Genesee begins their fall season at home against Mercyhurst NE on September 2nd 2010.
