Genesee Community College at Arcade is pleased to announce the spring 2010 Student and Instructor of the Semester. Each semester, one student and one instructor are awarded the honor for their academic or teaching performance. David E. Parker of Grand Island, NY has been selected as the Instructor of the Semester and Terry R. Parker (no relation) of Chaffee, NY has been selected at Student of the Semester.
David is a retired Army veteran who teaches Accounting and Business classes at the Arcade Campus Center. In 2008, his Marketing class was invited to present to Arcade Village Board. Student comments included: "He demonstrates real news headlines that apply to the lessons" and "His direct approach makes his class enjoyable and fun." One student simply commented, “He is awesome!”
Terry is an adult student who has been attending Arcade for almost two years. A Human Services major, Terry is known for his readiness to give other students a helping hand. Teacher comments included: “Terry's attitude has been very positive” and “He has shown great effort to be prepared for each class.”
Student of the Semester is chosen through a nomination form by an instructor which includes a narrative as to why the student deserves the award. The forms are collected by the Campus Center staff and, in the case of more than one nomination, each of the five staff members (Campus Center dean, secretary and three associates) each cast one vote to select the award winner. The process for the Instructor of the Semester Award is the same, except that the instructors are nominated by their students.
The Arcade Campus Center is located at 25 Edward Street Arcade. For further information please call 585-492-5265.
